Attorney Michael S. Hussey has spent his entire career litigating and trying complex cases on behalf of criminal defendants across the Commonwealth. Over the course of his career, Attorney Hussey has represented thousands of individuals charged with a vast array of criminal offenses. He brings nearly forty years of experience to Tansley | Halloran where his knowledge, skills, and expertise directly benefit our clients.

Before entering private practice in 2017, Attorney Hussey led the Worcester Public Defenders office (CPCS) for more than twenty years as the Attorney-in-Charge. He continues to represent clients at all stages of the process, including pre-arrest investigations, clerks’ hearings, witness advisories, motions to dismiss and suppress, juvenile delinquency matters, trials, and post-conviction litigation. He was approved to take on murder cases in 1992 and since then has represented over 60 clients charged in homicide cases. He is a contributing author to the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education’s Trying Murder and Homicide Cases manual. He actively represents multiple defendants facing homicide charges.  

Attorney Hussey is widely known as a valued lecturer and faculty member at continuing legal education programs in Massachusetts and New York. In 2006, Attorney Hussey was awarded the Edward Duggan Public Defender Award by CPCS. This award is given to the attorney who best represents zealous advocacy of indigent criminal defendants in Massachusetts. He was the 2003 recipient of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Access to Justice Award recognizing his exemplary legal skills and service to the community.

The American College of Trial Lawyers is an invitation-only organization limited to no more than 1% of trial lawyers in each state. Members represent the highest quality advocates and trial lawyers. Attorney Hussey has been a member of this prestigious group since 2004.

Attorney Hussey is a past president of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a longtime board member of the Massachusetts Citizens Against the Death Penalty.

Attorney Hussey carries an active caseload of both appointed and private criminal cases in both state and federal court. He is available for consultation with potential new clients in all aspects of criminal defense, including OUI, domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment, theft, and drug and firearm related matters.
